Yes! While I provide a calm healing space inside my clinic, I also offer home visits, especially during those early postpartum days when getting out of the house is hard. My services are accessible and unique as we can meet at a park or gym if necessary as well!
Your Initial Evaluation will be mostly going over your intake paperwork and listening to your story and goals. We will then do some objective assessment of your body including (but not limited to): breathing, posture, mechanics, strength, joint mobility, alignment, soft tissue mobility etc). Depending on the time allowed and your consent, we may also perform an internal pelvic exam to get the full picture of your pelvic health. If this does not happen at the first visit, we will make time for it at your follow-ups.
Let's be real.... NO ONE wants a vaginal exam, but this is the most crucial piece of information in your healing journey. This exam is not meant to cause anymore trauma to the body, so if the body is not ready or willing, we do not do it. Once the mind and body both consent, your therapist will use one gloved finger to assess the external and internal pelvic floor muscles. We are looking for strength, coordination, endurance, pressure management, and presence of any prolapse, trigger points or muscle imbalances that may contribute to your symptoms. This may be done lying down or in other functional positions depending on your symptoms and needs.
YES! We can still do the internal pelvic exam if you are on your period if you are comfortable with it, but if you would like to wait there are still many other external treatments we can do to help move you towards your goals!
Yes! Just like a deep tissue massage or adjustment from your chiropractor, it is normal to have a day or two of acheyness or soreness following your treatment session, especially after manual work. If it limits your function or goes beyond soreness and into pain, please inform your therapist so they can be aware of how your body responded to the treatment. Feel free to use a heat or ice pack to manage soreness if needed.
You are more than welcome to bring your baby or older little ones! The clinic space is small, but they are welcome to sit or play on the rug space. There is also a small waiting area right outside the door that they are welcome to hang out in if you would like privacy during your visit.
